Reprioritising things that make you happy; relaunching the Doing Good Podcast
Many of you know that my podcast has been a bit neglected for the past year/ more. It initially took a backseat as it became a weekly radio segment and as I began studying for my Masters. And after that, I felt that I just didn't have the time, energy or inspiration to continue doing it. But, after doing some analysis about this, I've decided to kickstart the podcast again. Here's why:
★ You will always find time for things that you prioritise. If you don't have time for something, then it's not high enough on your priority list. I never had enough time to podcast and I realised I was getting stressed about the idea of even doing it on top of everything else. I have reprioritised my time and my commitments, which meant saying no to other projects and focusing on spending time on strategic things and things that make me happy.
★ I still really enjoy podcasting and speaking with so many interesting and inspirational people around the world about the work they are doing. What I don't enjoy is the editing. It's time consuming and just energy draining. So it became a real blocker for me. In fact I have about 5 episodes that I had pre recorded that have not been released because I got stuck on editing. Why don't you just get an editor onboard? Well I hate it so much that even thinking of the process of working with an editor drained me. I felt like it didn't solve the problem of the back and forth and still having to be involved in some capacity with editing process. BUT I've worked out a solution to this and I'm excited to debut a new format for the podcast moving forward.
★ Brain stimulating and energy injecting conversations with people doing so many different things and looking at impact in so many different ways. There are so many opinions about what impact is, what it is not, how ethics and morals play into this debate and how the whole thing can be so grey, but most importantly the most exciting part is how everyone is just trying to do their best and wants to create a better world. I love these conversations and I want to talk to more of these people.
★ Every now and then I get an email that drops into my inbox or a private message or meet someone in real life that has actually listened to my podcast and shares something they learnt from it. While I love these moments and get so much energy from them, the podcast always started out as a hobby and something that I'm just passionate about: if myself and my guest enjoyed having a conversation and that's all the impact it ever had, then that would be enough. And if other people enjoyed the conversation too and if they learnt something, wow even better! I think there's so much pressure to create things that will scale or make money or reach more people. I'm going back to the original premise for creating this podcast and am just excited to have some great conversations.
So with all of that, I'm excited to start recording again and would love to hear from you with recommendations on who I should speak to!
